ACHE/HIMSS Microposium - The US Roadmap for Interoperable Health Record
4301 West Boy Scout Rd.
Tampa, FL 33607
Since President George W. Bush's 2004 Executive Order, the HHS Office of the National Coordinator of Health IT has a program of designing and provisioning interoperable medical information resources between disparate health provider's electronic health record systems. Three phases of "Meaningful Use" national software and clinical practice standards have emerged. There have been some notable achievements like ePrescribing, and more consistent medication, allergy and problem lists, but not all capabilities needed for complete health information interchange have been uniformly and successfully adopted nationwide. This Panel will discuss the probable roadmap in the coming five years, as federal Meaningful Use requirements and financial incentives sunset.
