CIO Hot Topic: Medical Device Interoperability and Security

At our inaugural CIO Roundtable, held at Tampa General Hospital in September, the Central and North Florida HIMSS chapter leaned that a key concern of area CIO’s was Biomedical Device Security. As a follow-up to that discussion, CNFLHIMSS is sponsoring a special webinar on Medical Device Interoperability and Security, featuring guest speaker, Erin Sparnon.

Erin is an Engineering Manager at ECRI Institute’s Health Devices Group, Erin Sparnon and leads a team in the testing and evaluation of medical devices, accident and forensic investigations involving device failures, and consulting services for hospitals.

Since joining ECRI Institute in 2002, Ms. Sparnon has focused on reducing medication errors through research and education, including dozens of comparative evaluations and guidance articles published in ECRI Institute’s Health Devices journal.

She has spoken on infusion safety technologies and medical device integration at several national conferences hosted by groups such as the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

Erin holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering from Duke University.
